The caster begins by slowly pacing the perimeter of the warded area, trailing their fingers along walls, doorframes, or the ground to trace the boundary. With each step, they whisper a repeating protective chant, and faint silver-blue threads of light follow their fingertips like spider silk. At the midpoint, the caster kneels and presses their palm flat against the threshold, binding the ward to the space. The final minutes are spent standing at the center with closed eyes, arms outstretched, feeling the invisible net settle into place — a shimmering web of awareness that only the caster can sense. Some casters tie a small silver bell to the entrance as a focus; others trace protective runes in chalk that fade once the spell takes hold. The caster may choose their own warding sigil — a personal mark that flares briefly when the alarm triggers.
You set an alarm against unwanted intrusion. Choose a door, a window, or an area within range that is no larger than a 20-foot cube. Until the spell ends, an alarm alerts you whenever a Tiny or larger creature touches or enters the warded area. When you cast the spell, you can designate creatures that won't set off the alarm. You also choose whether the alarm is mental or audible. A mental alarm alerts you with a ping in your mind if you are within 1 mile of the warded area. This ping awakens you if you are sleeping. An audible alarm produces the sound of a hand bell for 10 seconds within 60 feet.
