The caster creates a hallowed space — a circle of candles, a sanctified altar, or simply a quiet place imbued with personal significance. They burn rare incense and make offerings appropriate to their faith: wine, bread, a written prayer, a drop of blood, or a treasured memory spoken aloud. The caster then enters a deep trance, their consciousness rising upward through the layers of reality like a bubble ascending through dark water. At the apex, they feel the presence of their deity — or the cosmic intelligence they serve — as an overwhelming warmth, pressure, or light. Questions must be framed as yes-or-no, and the answers arrive as absolute certainty: yes feels like sunrise; no feels like a door closing; uncertain feels like fog. The caster may ask up to three questions, and each answer comes with the weight of divine authority. The return to normal consciousness is gentle but disorienting — the world seems smaller, quieter, and more fragile than before.
You contact your deity or a divine proxy and ask up to three questions that can be answered with a yes or no. You must ask your questions before the spell ends. You receive a correct answer for each question. Divine beings aren't necessarily omniscient, so you might receive "unclear" as an answer if a question pertains to information that lies beyond the deity's knowledge. In a case where a one-word answer could be misleading or contrary to the deity's interests, the GM might offer a short phrase as an answer instead. If you cast the spell two or more times before finishing your next long rest, there is a cumulative 25 percent chance for each casting after the first that you get no answer. The GM makes this roll in secret.
