The most solemn and formal of the divination rituals. The caster prepares a sacred space: incense burns in a silver censer, candles are arranged in a pattern corresponding to the alignment of relevant celestial bodies, and the offering — incense and a sacrificial offering appropriate to the caster's faith — is consumed in sacred flame. The caster kneels, bows their head, and presents their question to the divine. The middle portion of the ritual is a waiting — a silence so profound it feels as though the world holds its breath. The answer comes differently to every caster: some hear a voice (kind, stern, or cryptic); others see a vision behind closed eyes; some find the answer written in the smoke or the arrangement of ash. Clerics hear their deity; druids hear the voice of nature; wizards perceive the answer as mathematical certainty. The answer is always true but never complete — the divine offers guidance, not solutions. The ritual leaves the caster with a lingering sense of having been observed by something vast and patient.
Your magic and an offering put you in contact with a god or a god's servants. You ask a single question concerning a specific goal, event, or activity to occur within 7 days. The GM offers a truthful reply. The reply might be a short phrase, a cryptic rhyme, or an omen. The spell doesn't take into account any possible circumstances that might change the outcome, such as the casting of additional spells or the loss or gain of a companion. If you cast the spell two or more times before finishing your next long rest, there is a cumulative 25 percent chance for each casting after the first that you get a random reading. The GM makes this roll in secret.
