The caster stands at the center of the intended area and raises their hands, palms outward, as if pressing against invisible walls. They begin to hum — a single, sustained note that gradually descends in pitch until it drops below the range of hearing. As the hum fades, so does all other sound within the ritual's radius. The caster then makes a series of precise, silent gestures — each one sealing another layer of sonic dampening into the area. The air within the zone thickens almost imperceptibly, as if filled with invisible cotton. Sounds that try to enter are swallowed; sounds that try to leave are smothered. The caster can feel the boundary of the silence like a physical membrane. The ritual's completion is marked by a moment of profound, absolute quiet — so total that the caster can hear their own heartbeat and the rush of blood in their ears. Some casters describe the sensation as peaceful; others find it deeply unsettling.
For the duration, no sound can be created within or pass through a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point you choose within range. Any creature or object entirely inside the sphere is immune to thunder damage, and creatures are deafened while entirely inside it. Casting a spell that includes a verbal component is impossible there.
