The caster sits quietly in the natural world and begins to still their human mind — setting aside language, logic, and abstraction. They breathe in rhythm with the environment: the rustle of leaves, the chirp of insects, the distant call of birds. Slowly, the caster's awareness expands to encompass the simple, vivid consciousness of animals. The ritual's middle phase involves a gradual attunement: the caster mimics animal sounds, movements, or postures — not to trick the animals, but to meet them halfway. A druid might crouch and cock their head like a curious fox; a ranger might drum their fingers in the rhythm of a woodpecker's tap. By the ritual's end, the barrier between human and animal consciousness has thinned enough to allow understanding. Animal speech is not like human language — it is emotion, image, and instinct translated into words the caster can comprehend. Each caster develops their own style of connection: some speak aloud, others communicate through stillness and intention.
You gain the ability to comprehend and verbally communicate with beasts for the duration. The knowledge and awareness of many beasts is limited by their intelligence, but at a minimum, beasts can give you information about nearby locations and monsters, including whatever they can perceive or have perceived within the past day. You might be able to persuade a beast to perform a small favor for you, at the GM's discretion.
