Sylvan Shores is Eshara's only significant forest — a druidic confederacy of approximately 145,000 people governed by the Circle of Seasons, a rotating leadership that shifts power between four seasonal seats. The forest provides Eshara's sole source of timber, giving Sylvan Shores extraordinary economic leverage.
But the peaceful exterior masks significant tensions. The Suntouched Dominion presses for more timber and threatens expansion. Deeproot Warren pursues secret magical research. Fey populations grow increasingly active. And in the deepest forest, something ancient is awakening — something that predates current civilisation and communicates through the dreams of a possibly-sentient tree called the Shadow-Arbor.
Multiple sources confirm something is awakening in the deepest forest and deepest caverns. Druid-Warden Kyrell organises expeditions into unexplored cavern systems with uncharacteristic urgency. The Shadow-Arbor sends increasingly disturbing visions to those who commune with it. The Tidemother's Temple — pre-civilisation coastal ruins — shows signs of activation for the first time in millennia. Ancient stone structures are visible at low tide near the Verdant River's mouth, structures the Circle of Seasons has forbidden investigation of. Whatever is emerging predates current civilisation. Some theorise it is a god, others a demon, others simply an entity of immense age. Its awakening could transform Sylvan Shores fundamentally.
Spring seat of the Circle of Seasons. A settlement built among ancient silver-barked trees whose canopy creates a permanent twilight below. The Spring-Leader governs from here during the season of growth and renewal.
Summer seat and the region's primary port. Ships from beyond Eshara dock here, making Tidecrest a cultural crossroads. Merchant-Master Corvus's trade networks generate enormous wealth — and foreign policy complications.
Autumn seat built underground among the roots of the great forest. The Warren houses forbidden archives containing restricted magical knowledge, dangerous research, and artefacts too dangerous for surface communities. It operates semi-autonomously.
Winter seat — a mobile settlement that shifts with the seasons. The most martial of the four seats, home to the Forest Wardens' main training grounds and the beast-rider cavalry.
Pilgrimage site centred on a tree estimated at over 5,000 years old — the spiritual heart of Sylvan Shores. Pilgrims report profound visions that seem to come from the land itself. An order of elder druids enforces strict protocols.
The Green Voice
An elf of impossible antiquity whose memories stretch back centuries. Kyrell is increasingly preoccupied with something awakening in the deepest forest. She has begun organising expeditions into unexplored cavern systems and commissioning protective wards — suggesting urgency that contradicts her normally patient demeanour.
The Shield of Tidecrest
Pragmatic military commander who argues Sylvan Shores is dangerously weak relative to surrounding kingdoms. She has secretly begun negotiating trade agreements that bypass Circle approval — agreements providing military equipment in exchange for preferential timber access.
The Connector
A half-elf of extraordinary cunning who has built a trade empire through Tidecrest Harbor. He smuggles restricted magical components from Deeproot Warren to buyers in the Oasis Confederacy. Indispensable for the wealth he generates, dangerous for the complications he creates.
The Visionary
A young elf of personal charisma who advocates for dramatically expanded trade, believing shared prosperity prevents conflict. His idealism generates support among merchants and youth but concerns conservative druids who fear cultural erosion.
The Witness
A possibly-sentient ancient tree in the deepest forest that communicates through dreams and visions. Its messages have become increasingly urgent and disturbing, suggesting something ancient is awakening. Only Kyrell and senior druids regularly commune with it.
The Between-Stepper
Mysterious figure representing fey interests. Neither entirely trustworthy nor hostile. She warns of fey movements and plans, but her motivations remain impenetrable. Some believe her to be actually fey; others think she is a misinformation agent.
A Circle of Seasons member hires the party for a secret expedition into Deeproot Warren seeking evidence of past civilisations. The forbidden archives contain information suggesting catastrophic collapses in Eshara's distant past — caused by forces that could recur.
Druid-Shaman Kyrell contacts the party reporting something ancient awakening in the deepest forest. She needs external agents not bound to Sylvan Shores politics to investigate and potentially contain or communicate with whatever is emerging.
Warden-Captain Elis approaches the party seeking help acquiring military equipment through channels bypassing Circle approval. Assisting her constitutes treachery against the Circle but might genuinely improve defensive capabilities against the expanding Suntouched Dominion.
Merchant-Master Corvus offers substantial payment to guide a shipment of restricted magical components to buyers in the Oasis Confederacy. The components are dangerous, the route is monitored, and discovery would create a diplomatic crisis.
The Tidemother's Temple — pre-civilisation coastal ruins — shows signs of activation. Ancient mechanisms are moving for the first time in millennia. The Circle has forbidden investigation, but whoever built the temple may have left warnings about what is coming.
